Acquisitions: Why Paperless Is the Way to Go
Although paper is useful for a number of things, its utility in organizing workflows is generally limited. Electronic submissions and tracking greatly increase efficiencies in acquisitions. It was important for us to be able to track pre-order steps, as not every request is purchased. On the submission side, only accepting electronic requests avoids the issue of illegible handwriting and of a slip becoming misplaced. Librarians can also elect to draw data out of electronic systems and determine what statistics are useful to their own reporting. Going paperless has greatly improved efficiency and accountability over the last 4 years.

Streaming and Screaming – Maintaining Sanity While Working with Streaming Videos
Streaming video is a wonderful resource for patrons. Streaming videos can (usually) be watched anywhere at any time by any number of simultaneous viewers. They can be accessed by online students as well as on ground students and they don’t eat up physical space. If only they were just a wee bit easier to deal with from the library side! This session will look at streaming videos from the perspectives of acquisitions, cataloging, access, and technical support. Philosophical questions of ownership vs access and the future of physical film collections will also be discussed. We will look at streaming video providers ranging from large well-known companies such as Swank and Films on Demand to smaller specialized providers such as FITNE, a provider of nursing streaming videos. Cataloging issues include questions such as record loads in a cluster context, full or brief records for titles from vendors not providing MARC records, provider neutral records, and whether to contribute holdings to MOBIUS and/or OCLC, How to make these records more discoverable (especially with a discovery service) will be also be addressed.

Data-Driven Collection Review
Webster University completes a comprehensive review each year in one of the following areas: print and e-journals, reference collection/standing orders, stacks, and databases. Taking information from Sierra bib, item, order, and checkin records as well as Ebsco and Serials Solutions data, we create reports with quantifiable information, such as usage statistics, last checkin, holdings, overlap analysis, and pricing information to allow all reviewers to have the necessary data to make informed decisions. We will share our procedures and how they have evolved over the years. We will also demonstrate ways to identify and highlight high cost, low usage items when quick, targeted reductions are needed. The comprehensive reviews have helped demonstrate that we are spending money prudently and supporting our users’ needs in this age of assessment and decreasing budgets.

Building Collaborative Collections: Analysis of eMO
In 2012, MOBIUS invested time and energy to develop a collaborative e-book collection available to members. Now, in its third year of use, we take a detailed look at its success. Participating members have been pleased with the collections available and the content provided; however, a detailed analysis of the usage could cause one to pause. We will discuss the results of the student and how MOBIUS might move forward in continuing to build a collaborative digital collection.
